Tracy and the practitioner

Have you ever heard the Bible story that tells how Jesus healed Peter's mother-in-law? It's a very short page of the book of Matthew. It tells how Jesus came into Peter's house and saw his wife's mother was sick. "And he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose...." Matt. 8:15; Well, this story about Tracy, a young girl, is easily told in just the same way. A Christian Science practitioner visited Tracy's home when she was very ill with a fever; and the practitioner prayed, and the fever left her. She felt so well she got up and started to play with a brand-new dollhouse she'd just received as a present but had been too sick to enjoy.

Before this happened, Tracy's mother had talked to her about how God loved her, but Tracy didn't feel any better. That's why her mother phoned the practitioner. Do you know what a Christian Science practitioner is? It's someone—man or woman—who follows Christ Jesus by healing in the way Christian Science shows us he did. In a book called Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy has written down for all of us the rules of the healing method Jesus used and showed his followers.

Maybe your father is a policeman, or your mother works in a bank. Those are their jobs. Christian Science practitioners are people who study and practice these rules for healing so as to be ready anytime to help those in need. It is their full-time occupation, and they are paid for their services. After they've proved to The Mother Church that they can heal, their names and telephone numbers are listed in the monthly magazine called The Christian Science Journal. You may want to look up your own hometown or other cities all over the world to find the names of those who are healing through prayer.
