"My Dad is not a Scientist, but it was natural to show him my trust in God"
I was reading the Bible Lesson from the Christian Science Quarterly one day and thought, "How could the disciples ever have doubted Jesus? He gave them such overwhelming proof of his healing power all through his ministry." This question came right back at me: "How could I ever doubt God's care for mankind when I have so much proof surrounding me?" I began to think of all the evidences of this love. Jesus' words and works, Mrs. Eddy's discovery of the Science of Christianity, the hundreds of testimonies of healing I have read or heard, and the healings I myself have had, were all proof to me that God watchfully cares for us. From that day I started consciously looking for specific examples of God's care in my own life and in the lives of others, and treasured each one until it became part of my trust in God.
It wasn't long before I had a chance to turn to this growing trust in a very useful way. I was swimming in the ocean with my dad when we found ourselves in water way above our heads. We decided to swim in a bit, but we were expending a lot of effort, not fully aware that we were battling a strong riptide. Dad said he was in trouble and that he had no more energy left to swim, so I put one arm under his shoulder to support him as I yelled and waved for help.
No help came right away. I felt myself tiring, and for a second I was afraid we were going to drown. But right away the thoughts I had been cherishing of God's forever, constant care kept me from being afraid and prompted me to say to my dad, "I know that Love is surrounding us all the time. God is supporting and upholding and guiding us."
