"Aging unknown to Life"

When I was a teen-ager, the girl next door, who was my age, became insane. I heard and saw many unsettling things, and I was left with a troublesome fear of losing my mind also.

As a young married woman, I began to study Christian Science and joined a branch church. One day at a gathering in the home of a fellow member, someone went to the piano and started to play and sing a hymn from the Christian Science Hymnal. We all joined in, and as we sang I pondered the words. I began to see that God is Mind—the one and only Mind—which man reflects as His idea. "How could I or anyone lose his or her mind?" I reasoned. "We would have to lose God." I knew that it is impossible to lose Him because God was, is, and always will be. That was the end of my unreasonable fear of insanity.

I was also healed of migraine headaches while still a relatively new student of Science. I learned to watch my thinking, and I observed that these headaches usually accompanied the emotional confusion of worry, self-pity, and general depression. I stopped indulging these habits by affirming the harmonious nature of true being. This statement from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy was an eye-opener to me (p. 188): "What is termed disease does not exist. It is neither mind nor matter." The recurring headaches were permanently healed.
