Reestablishing respect for law
Hard times—even those times when respect for law itself is called into question—can serve as a launching pad for spiritually impelled advances.
"Fright is so great at certain stages of mortal belief as to drive belief into new paths." Science and Health, p. 251; This phenomenon, which Mrs. Eddy describes in Science and Health, introduces a paragraph referring to the crisis of death. But perhaps we can also see its implications for the crises brought about by deteriorating respect for the rule of law—a deterioration evident today in both international and domestic affairs.
Civil law has been ignored, as in the recent transit strike in New York City, which continued after it was declared illegal.
