Original health

Health and healing greatly concern the world today. All kinds of health: health of the body politic, of our social system, of our economic setup, and of the physical body. Christian Science shares this concern. It asks that mankind turn thoughtful attention to the remarkable works of Christ Jesus. More than any other person in history, he lived and showed forth the perfect, indestructible man—the Christ. This made him the most original individual who ever lived. His healing power was equally original.

The word "original" is associated with origin and cause. It implies something that has not been done before, something new, unique, one of a kind. In this sense, nothing could be more original than a specific Christian Science healing.

Christ Jesus declared both his origin and his starting point when he said, "I and my Father are one." John 10:30; Mary Baker Eddy points out this unbroken oneness, which shone through all his daily love and care for others. She writes, "Physical causation was put aside from first to last by this original man, Jesus." Science and Health, p. 286; Mrs. Eddy herself was one of the most original thinkers of this or any age. She followed Christ and left behind the matter-based and restrictive hypotheses of the fleshly or brain-mind. She dared to think and to look out from the infinite, to behold what is divinely true of God, divine Love, and His infinite idea, man and the universe.
