Freedom from destructive tension
Tension is a prevalent ill in contemporary society. But is man really a struggling mortal? Or is he God's image, as the Bible states? Christian Scientists accept the teachings of the Bible, which are spiritually explained in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. They acknowledge that omnipotent Spirit is the source and substance of man's being and the only influence on him.
Not too many years ago I was a victim of pressure, tension, and several physical ailments. My character left much to be desired too. I was irritable, harried, and sometimes unkind. Then I found Christian Science. As I studied the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly and learned something about God and man's inseparable relationship with Him, I began to change.
The acknowledgment that man is spiritual, the reflection of God and His qualities, began at once to change my concept of myself. The dawning realization that my only real identity was as God's child and that God is good began to eliminate the false belief that I was a mixture of good and bad—partly spiritual and partly material.
