When softball season started at school, I was one of the first to sign up for the team. I had never played a varsity sport before and thought it would be a neat experience. We had two weeks before our first game, and that was a time to practice our skills. I worked hard, but one day while I was doing the running warm-up before practice, I pulled a muscle in my leg. It was very painful.

The coach said I could sit out that afternoon, but that he expected me to be ready to play the following day. I am going to a school for Christian Scientists, and on the softball team the coach and the team members all support each other in our efforts to understand more of God and to demonstrate Christian healing.

"OK," I said to myself. "Here is an opportunity for you to put what you know of Christian Science and its healing power into practice." So, that night I studied some passages in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I thought a lot about joy. I knew that joy is a spiritual quality that man constantly expresses as God's reflection, so the joy I was giving in participating on the softball team could not be taken away.
