Many years ago I was freed from suffering through Christian Science. Medical, homeopathic, and electrotherapeutic treatment over a period of a year and a half had not brought release from a chronic sciatic ailment. It was at this point I decided to consult a Christian Science practitioner. My first visit with him gave me new confidence that I would be healed. The treatment by the practitioner and my intensive study of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy brought great relief, and from then on the progress was steady, even though slow, until the healing was complete. This condition has never recurred.

In my profession as a house painter, one day I inadvertently spilled a concentrated caustic solution that went into my eye. The appearance of this eye was frightening. With conviction I spoke this statement out loud (Science and Health, p. 486): "Sight, hearing, all the spiritual senses of man, are eternal. They cannot be lost." I felt that I had two choices: I could turn to matter for help, or I could rely on the divine Mind. I decided to trust Mind to reveal to me what was true concerning my real identity as immortal man. An indescribable feeling of spiritual fortitude flooded through me as I went back to my work. I wasn't aware of any fear. With a grateful heart I recalled numerous blessings that had come to me through Christian Science.

At the end of the workday as I was changing my clothes, I noticed that my eye was again intact in the eye socket. The pronounced redness disappeared overnight, so that the following day the eye was completely healthy again.
