What belongs to you
You know what belongs to you. Your clothes, books, toys, maybe a dog or gerbil. When you think of these things, you never wonder whom they belong to. You know.
Even more important things belong to you, too. Happiness, health, intelligence are yours, because God gives them to you. A great composer would not be a great composer if he didn't produce music that showed his inspiration and masterful workmanship. In much the same way, God would not be the one, perfect creator without something that expressed His joy and love and strength. You and I are that expression, the way God shows what He is. These good qualities can never be taken from us.
Suppose someone you had never seen before came into your room, took everything out of your drawers and closets, and threw it on the floor. Suppose he said, "This is my room. You must get out." Would you believe him? Would you let him have your room? Of course not, because you'd know he wasn't telling the truth! And your mom or dad would back you up, too.
When error—the word Christian Science uses for lying thoughts—comes barging in and tries to take us over with hurts or sickness, it's just the same. Because our Father-Mother God made us in His likeness, always happy and well, we don't have to stand for error's lies. We can keep ourselves protected from every lie of error by knowing what belongs to us. And God always backs us up with His love.
Mary Baker Eddy, who discovered how to use God's laws in everyday life, tells us in her book Science and Health exactly what to do. She writes, "Stand porter at the door of thought." Science and Health, p. 392; This means we must guard our thinking by knowing that God is the only Mind and that the only thoughts He gives are ones that make us healthy and loving. That way no evil thought can fool us into letting it slip in and take over our lives.
It's so good to know we can never lose what really belongs to us. Christ Jesus said, "The kingdom of God is within you." Luke 17:21. All of God's goodness is here for us all of the time, and evil can't ever become real, because God didn't make it. It is nothing and nobody.
One way you can pray every day is to make a list in your thinking of what really belongs to you. You may be surprised at all the good things you find.
