Several years ago I wanted very much to become a member of The Mother Church. In a visit with a Christian Science practitioner, she asked me whether or not I relied on material medicine for health problems. I told her that I did. In particular, I was regularly taking pills to control an abnormal fluid condition. The conversation that followed gave me a new and vivid sense of God's power, which is available for all to lean on in any situation. As we discussed further what God truly is, I felt an appreciation for Him that I had not known before—a clearer understanding of Him that I could trust and rely on.

As a result of this conversation I felt encouraged to take a radical stand for the healing power of God and to trust in Him instead of trusting in a material pellet. I stopped taking the pills, and soon there was a happy normalizing of the fluid condition.

During my interview with the practitioner, I had completely forgotten about the vitamin injection the doctor had told me I must have every month for the rest of my life. I was suffering from pernicious anemia, but as we spoke this condition completely left my thought. Three months later—when I next thought of the injections—I was feeling fine, and there were no more symptoms of the anemia. I was completely well. It was the practitioner's spiritual understanding of the real man, and her recognition of the healing presence of the Christ, that had brought about this healing.
