The devil and the ocean of Love

Have you ever been on a beach when the breeze has brought in a distracting swarm of flies? The only relief from their stinging was to plunge under water in the ocean.

This illustrates how animal magnetism—the seeming action of error or mortal mind—would distract the Christian Scientist from keeping his thought on God. Actually, in spiritual fact, we are all already at one with God, divine Love, and eventually we'll be in a position to prove that we are forever immersed in what Mrs. Eddy once called "the infinite ocean of Love." Her full sentence reads, "The baptism of Spirit, or final immersion of human consciousness in the infinite ocean of Love, is the last scene in corporeal sense." Miscellaneous Writings, p. 205;

From this perspective we can more effectively counter the suggestions of mortal mind, or what traditional theology would call the devil. In the Bible we find Job relating that the devil walked to and fro on the earth. Doing what? Stirring up confusion, frustration, fear, all of which would support his (mortal mind's) suppositional presence.
