LETTERS TO THE PRESS

From Christian Science Committees on Publication

In the Daily Times Slidell, Louisiana

Imagine our surprise when we opened the Slidell Daily Times on May 18 and ran across the "Word of Faith" column on your religion page. The writer had taken it upon himself to "expose" Christian Science as a religion supposedly having no foundation in "true Bible faith." Such a statement came as something of an eye opener to your Christian Science readers who spend ample time each day in earnest study of the Bible as the basic support of their daily religious practice and belief.

Admittedly, the matter of true Bible faith is a question that Christian denominations have been trying to resolve among themselves for centuries, but obviously there are no fewer denominations today than in times past. Indeed, the number continues to grow. Nevertheless, since religious news is usually handled in such an objective and fair-minded manner by the Daily Times, it seems a little strange to find column space devoted for the purpose of one Christian condemning the religious views of another.
