Before I retired, I worked in a factory making photographic chemicals. On one occasion I was adding sulfuric acid to some boiling liquor, and the mixture unexpectedly blew up in my face.
I groped to where cold water was in order to neutralize the acid by washing my face.
Before long the chief chemist arrived on the scene, and he strongly advised me to have instant medical attention. From the appearance of my face he was afraid I might lose the use of one of my eyes. I dismissed this suggestion and told him I felt sure that I would be all right.
