Good is not chancy

Do you believe that chance can play a part in bringing something good into your life? Gambling says that it can. And so prevalent is this belief today that we find some governments supporting and even actively promoting gambling.

Examined in the light of Christian Science, chance is seen to occupy no such exalted place. This Science teaches, on biblical authority, that the universe is created and governed by divine Spirit, or Principle, and therefore is not material but spiritual; that Principle operates through absolute law, not through possibilities and probabilities. Man, the highest creation of divinity, is also spiritual—the object of God's love, the recipient of His inexhaustible good.

God being Principle, the source of all good, the production of good must be controlled by His law. And God being Love, the Giver of all good, His giving must also be governed by divine law. So what part could chance play in either the production or the bestowal of good? The door opener to our experience of good now is our understanding that God as infinite Principle produces all the genuine good there is and as universal Love bestows this good impartially on His spiritual creation. Such understanding releases us from the restrictive belief we are dependent on material circumstances for our supply. It frees us to recognize and accept God's abundant provision for our present needs.
