God has supplied my every need over a period of many years. When our first child was due to arrive, I was a comparatively new student of Christian Science. At the time, a Christian Science practitioner was praying for me. It seemed right that we be free from debts connected with the birth. Not only was I working toward a harmonious physical experience for me and the child, but I saw no reason why the arrival couldn't be C.O.D. (cash on delivery)!
At this time we had no regular source of income. The child arrived early in the afternoon. That morning a check had been received in settlement of a lawsuit that had been pending for some years. It was in the exact amount necessary to pay the doctor in attendance at the home (he was there in accordance with state law), the Christian Science nurse, and the practitioner. We had a great need at the time for another apartment. Those we saw, at the price we felt we could afford to pay, were dark and dingy. We prayed over the words of Mrs. Eddy's poem "Communion Hymn" (Poems, p. 75), where, speaking of the effect of the saving power of Love, she writes:
