I learned about Christian Science in October 1971
I learned about Christian Science in October 1971. At the time I was going through a period of anguish. I asked for the address of the Church of Christ, Scientist, in Rosario and the hours of services so that I could see what it was all about. I went to the church and asked if anyone could explain this teaching to me. I was introduced to a Christian Science practitioner, who very kindly explained some of the basic truths of Christian Science. I was loaned Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.
I began to read this blessed book with an immense longing to find a solution for all the troubles I faced, and I asked God to give me the understanding and patience I needed at the time. Thanks to the encouragement the practitioner gave me while I was reading, I began to acquire a sense of peace and hope, and my confidence in God increased. I had always known that God knows all, sees all, can do all; but in spite of the faith I had, I was always sick. I had chronic bronchitis from the age of four months. Later it appeared that my spine was out of line in three places. The doctors said there was no cure. From what they could tell from the many X-rays taken, my spine had been this way from birth. Lung specialists said that one of my lungs wasn't functioning at all. Also, I became ill with a liver complaint and was operated on three times; but I continued to be ill and couldn't eat many foods.
Due to the doctrine of my former church, I thought I must accept all this because it was the will of God. Yet I could never truly resign myself to this. I thought it impossible for God to have punished me when I was so young.
