Over fifteen years ago I first became acquainted with Christian Science while pursuing study for a medical career. After reading the first chapter in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy on the subject of "Prayer," my thought was radically changed. However, I did not feel I could honestly pursue the study of Christian Science until after a change in my vocation was made. Since that time, I have felt divinely upheld through many changes in my life. I feel more actively involved now in a higher sense of caring.

In comparing Christian Science with various forms of humanitarian assistance, it has been said others supply men with fish while Christian Science teaches men how to fish. Through the daily study of Christian Science, membership in The Mother Church and one of its branch churches, and class instruction, I feel I am beginning to learn how to fish. A few of the healings we have had in our family of five include those of allergies, tonsillitis, severe symptoms of asthma, fallen arches, and the effects of accidents, including two apparent fractures. Through the application of Christian Science I was able to resume and complete my college education, after our youngest son entered nursery school. This took persistence, but I learned much about growth in spiritual understanding along the way. I have come to regard true education as the healing of negative qualities such as self-centeredness, indifference, laziness, and incompetence. When I found I could care, I found I could learn.

Another healing of our eldest child stands out, because it taught me the importance of recognizing and overcoming human will. When this boy was ten years of age, his teeth were extremely crooked. Because the condition was quite noticeable, a school guidance counselor suggested that something really ought to be done. I asked a Christian Science practitioner for help.
