The summer following my sophomore year in high school I became very tense and nervous and found it difficult to relax or fully enjoy my activities. This condition continued into my junior year of high school, and I did little about it except complain. Finally, when the condition began to worsen, I consulted a Christian Science practitioner. The practitioner helped me understand the need to spiritualize consciousness and realize my identity as the perfect child of God, free and happy, not subject to discord. I then realized I had been trying to find my happiness through people, the material world, and human activities. I realized the need to change my concept of myself and to see myself as complete, without relying on materiality as a source of happiness—to see myself complete with Father-Mother God.

I pondered the statement from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. vii), "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." From this I knew I needed to depend on God and express His qualities of truth and love. The Bible verse (Ps. 55:22), "Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee," was a great help in realizing God's ever-present care and love.

Gradually the tense and nervous condition ceased. Through glorifying God and relying on Him, I was able to enjoy all activities fully. Cheerleading, bowling, gymnastics, and other vigorous activities were undertaken without any strain.
