The Christmas pageant

"Guess what!" came Janice's excited voice over the phone. "Our Sunday School's giving a Christmas pageant, and I'm going to be an angel!"

Janice was my closest friend, and even though I was happy for her, I felt a little left out. It seemed all my friends were in Christmas pageants in their churches—one friend as Mary, another as a wise man, and still another as a shepherd.

I attended the Christian Science Sunday School, where we didn't do that sort of thing. I loved all I was learning there about God—that He is not a human being but is infinite Spirit; that He is not way off in the sky but is ever-present Love; that He is all good and fills all space. Each one of His children is precious to Him, and not one can ever be separated from His loving care. And when we listen for His angels (His thoughts assuring us of His all-power) we always feel His help.
