Freedom from suffering
Man is the offspring of immortal Mind. He cannot suffer. Mortals suffer. Man is not mortal. He perpetually reflects Mind's immortality. Christian Science reveals the ultimate truth that relieves mortals of their suffering. This Science brings to light the reality of being. It shows that God is good, divine Love. God in His goodness—His very allness—is the substance of existence.
Man bears the likeness of God—of his Father-Mother. Because God is Spirit, man is wholly spiritual. He is the expression of divine consciousness. The substance of his being is quality of thought—not quantity of matter. God never suffers. His nature is perfect. Man never suffers. He is God's image.
If we identify ourselves as mortal, we provide a basis in our lives for suffering. If we identify ourselves as God's man, we provide a basis in our lives for harmony. The more we learn about our true selfhood as man, the child of God, the sooner we will outgrow the belief that man suffers. All suffering stems from a lack of understanding God. The tragic events of history—of even the last half century—show the enormous need for mankind to find a solution to suffering. Christ Jesus understood God—and man's relationship to Him. This understanding brought vivid and practical proof that suffering yields to the Christ and its message of Mind's allness.
