Can you see hot? Or cold? No, but you can see what they do. When the kettle steams on the stove, or your mom's cookies finish baking—then you have an idea of what hot is.
When ice cubes make your lemonade cold, or the pond freezes over for skating, then you can see evidence of what cold is. You can't see cold or hear it, but you know it is because it does something.
