My next-door neighbor had her house up for sale but was unable to sell it. Later, after she had introduced me to Christian Science, we both knew she had remained in the house for a purpose.
During this time, and for several years prior, I had suffered from a functional disorder for which every remedy, including surgery, had been tried to no avail. This neighbor had loaned me Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I had read it somewhat but could not seem to understand it. One day after I had returned home from one of my numerous hospital stays, she visited me and recommended that I have treatment from a Christian Science practitioner. When I asked if she thought this would help, she replied, "Yes" and left. For two days the struggle with fear and self continued until I thought, "What do you have to lose?" A practitioner was called, and she spent an hour with me. She agreed to treat me through prayer. Within a few hours release and healing came. A great wave of love and warmth washed over me, and I felt like a new woman.
The practitioner had asked me to come to church on Wednesday evening, and I went. I started to study the Bible Lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly, enrolled our four children in the Sunday School, and began to attend church services regularly. From that time on, I could understand the Bible and Science and Health as never before. This healing took place fifteen years ago, and the condition has never bothered me again. Subsequent examinations required by my employment have shown no trace of the ailment, and I have remained active and well. The inspiration gained from that first healing carried me through several years of study until I could have class instruction. Those two marvelous weeks were the most important of my life, and the yearly association meeting is an unfailing guide.
