I have much reason to be grateful for Mary Baker Eddy's contribution to the world. I am indeed enjoying the highest concept of health and better, more rewarding, productive activity in my profession. I would like to tell of my entrance into a teaching career and of a healing of deafness.

Upon graduation many years ago, I had fulfilled the necessary requirements for a teaching certificate. However, a few days before graduation, the education department chairman called me into his office and recommended that I consider another field. He was quite distinguished in educational circles. Having already discussed my qualifications with other members in the department, he felt I was too nervous to assume teaching responsibilities. In addition, he refused to recommend me for any teaching assignment.

Arriving at home, I proceeded to look up references from Mrs. Eddy's writings on occupation, fulfillment, and progress. She tells us in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (p. 239), "To ascertain our progress, we must learn where our affections are placed and whom we acknowledge and obey as God."
