True power inheres in Love's qualities
The Missile and the Lamb
Mankind seems to be in the grip of a nuclear arms fever. The superpowers have amassed nuclear weapons of great destructiveness. Smaller nations, too, now are scrambling to build up their own arsenals, even as the "have" nations seek to restrain them. Each year weapons become more lethal in physical power, speed, and accuracy.
In a world of contending political systems and cultural and social antagonisms, nations feel they run great risks if they let down their physical defenses. Missiles and other complex components of a nuclear arsenal seem to be needed to preserve stability as long as the possibility of aggression remains.
But Christian Science offers the world something more than faith in the force of physical armaments. For it reveals what the real enemy is and where true defense lies. It shows how we can apply the power of the Christ, Truth, to destroy evil aims so that mankind gradually loses its fears and begins to lessen its dependence on atomic arsenals until one day they can be dismantled altogether. In those well-known words of the Apostle Paul, "Though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ." II Cor. 10:3-5;
