I am glad to be able to acknowledge, from personal experience, the healing power of the truth of man's being as an idea of God, explained in Christian Science.
The greatest test of my understanding of Christian Science and of my willingness to rely on it came in 1968. When my husband retired, we went to Europe to travel for two years. After several months I gradually became ill with an undiagnosed digestive difficulty, to the point where I could eat very little. My weight dropped below one hundred pounds, and I became very weak. We left Spain, where I had been unable to find Christian Science help at that time. We flew to London and asked prayerful help from a Christian Science practitioner. For a time things appeared to get worse, until I could retain no food at all, not even milk.
I rejected the thought of going to a hospital where intravenous feeding techniques could be applied, on the ground that the use of such means, including the accompanying subjection to medical theories, would be unacceptable to me. After a lifetime as a student of Christian Science, my faith was not in such methods.
