The Family Party

(written at age 11)

Tanya and her parents were going to Grandmother and Grandfather's house. So were all of her aunts and uncles and cousins. Boy, there sure would be a lot of relatives! She could hardly wait.

It was going to be a special get-together. Grandmother wrote and asked if ' Tanya would like to read a poem. "I Wrote the poem when I was your age," the letter said, "and I thought you'd like to read it to everyone." Tanya wrote back and said she couldn't wait to read it.

Then Tanya looked at the poem. It was a nice poem— she really liked it. "But what if I stumble over some of the words?" She suddenly felt a little scared. Then she was afraid of her fear. What if it made her spoil Grandmother's poem? She began to feel awful just thinking about being afraid with the whole family listening to her.
