Finding Who We Are and Where We Come From

Each of us is rooted in eternity, a distinct member of God's infinite, spiritual creation. Our God-given individuality and ancestry are discoverable now through spiritual understanding.

The latest human theories and research cannot pin down man's true origin, because that origin is in Spirit, not matter. Humanly speaking, Christ Jesus was Mary's offspring, and tradition traced his ancestral line back to David, the great Hebrew king. But Jesus knew that the Christ, his eternal and only real selfhood—the true idea of manhood—was never identifiable with or subordinate to matter and its supposed processes and laws. Wasn't Jesus pointedly rebuking material belief in the following exchange with the Pharisees? Jesus asked, "What think ye of Christ? whose son is he?" The account continues: "They say unto him, The Son of David. He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord . . .? If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?" Matt. 22:42-45; At another time, speaking in no uncertain terms of his spiritual, true individuality, Jesus said, "Before Abraham was, I am." John 8:58; He knew that man's origin and being are found always in eternal divine Life.

This Life is all that really is—God and His expression, infinite and indivisible. Life is not in matter, and matter is no part of Life. Life is Mind, divine Spirit. In the eternal allness of Life there is no time, birth, or death. There is no coming and going, no separation from good. Life is ever present—spiritually discerned by God's spiritual creation. Immortal Life can no more lapse into death than Truth can become a mistake.
