Having completed my fiftieth year as a member of The Mother Church...
Having completed my fiftieth year as a member of The Mother Church in December 1975, merely thanking God, as I do constantly, does not seem enough. Only this public expression of gratitude will satisfy my desire to "sing praises unto the Lord" (Ps. 27:6).
Fifty years ago I was headed for a miserable, unhappy life. Although reared in a strictly religious home and atmosphere, I could not accept the concept of God this gave me. I preferred no God at all to one of wrath, jealousy, and revenge, who meted out everlasting punishment.
I was introduced to Christian Science when I became soloist for a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. I was told the solo was a vital part of the Sunday service and should, therefore, be appropriate to the subject of each week's Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly. This necessitated my purchase of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, to be studied with the Bible.
