Let Your Actions Speak for Truth

Where I once worked, the more I tried to bring order and uphold policies, hurrying through my work to help others, the worse the situation got. Finally, tormented by inner turmoil, feeling my motives and hard work were misunderstood, I wondered how long I could or should stay there. But testimonies of Christian Science healing I had heard at Wednesday meetings in a Church of Christ, Scientist, showed me that the wrong concept of ourselves and others causes most difficulties and can be overcome when we turn to God for help.

A two-week vacation gave me time to study the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings deeply, to ponder them, and to pray for spiritual understanding. I was impressed by the Bible account of the history of Joseph—how he was seized by his jealous older brothers, cast into a pit, and then sold to passing traders, who in turn sold him into slavery in Egypt. Later, though slandered and imprisoned, he continued steadfastly to trust God. He did not yield to self-pity, discouragement, anger, hostile criticism. His steadfast goodness and spiritual insight won him even the prison keeper's respect.

Being industrious, loving, kind, and good in the face of mistreatment, hatred, and rejection, living in accordance with God's laws, Joseph was eventually lifted out of prison and attained high position in the kingdom, second only to the pharaoh. His continued faith in God and his goodness finally brought about complete reconciliation with his family. Gen., Chaps. 37, 39-45;
