Love's universal family is forever complete

Adoption: A Spiritual Approach

In Christian Science divine Principle, God, is understood to be the only parentage of man. Regardless of our relationship to one another in the human family, we are in reality all the sons and daughters of God. We read in the Bible, "The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God." Rom. 8:16; At a time when a child of unknown human parentage is being adopted into one's family, these words of Paul the Apostle can help to open thought to a fuller realization of man's divine parenthood and all that it includes.

In Science no child is the personal creation of human beings. Whether we increase our human families naturally, or through adoption, or not at all, the immortal fact remains that Love's universal family is already infinitely and eternally complete. Mrs. Eddy writes, "Creation is ever appearing, and must ever continue to appear from the nature of its inexhaustible source." Science and Health, p. 507; The acceptance of spiritual creation as the only creation is a prerequisite for the demonstration of our kinship with God and our place in His immortal family of man.

From the standpoint of Christian Science adoptive parents are encouraged to give primary consideration to spiritually preparing their thought for the adoption rather than to the mere happy human acceptance of another's child into the family.
