The Way to Harmony

"There is but one way to heaven, harmony, and Christ in divine Science shows us this way. It is to know no other reality—to have no other consciousness of life—than good, God and His reflection, and to rise superior to the so-called pain and pleasure of the senses," Science and Health, p. 242; writes Mrs. Eddy. Study of the Gospels reveals that this is how Christ Jesus lived and taught—not alone by his words but more importantly by his healing and harmonizing works. We are wise to accept his loving invitation, "Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls." Matt. 11:29;

Learning step by step to live correctly is a rewarding and satisfying occupation, and it leads to peace and harmony. Knowing man's real heritage as the individual expression of God, perfect Life, we prayerfully claim strength, health, fulfillment. In fact, we persist in identifying ourselves with all that is good, spiritual, and entirely free of discord. Truly a gloomy, hopeless, restrictive outlook on life disappears when our footsteps are firmly planted in the path of divine Love. We begin to forsake the unreal and trouble-laden concept of life as material and to claim man's true identity as the child of all-harmonious Spirit. The more God is admitted into our lives, the happier, more contented, and freer from discord will be our days, and the more worthwhile our accomplishments.

Increasing obedience to God and His ways signals a proportionate departure from a wrongful view of life. Our prayerful desire to grow in grace changes our view of an erroneous and discordant situation from an unwelcome problem to a challenge. Such a situation can be seen as a mental spur to a greater effort to let the light of harmony shine forth. Leaning on God in our untiring work will always bring victory. Spiritual enlightenment will improve our mode of prayer. Joyful thanksgiving will replace pleading. Our prayer will become a grateful acknowledgment that discord of any nature is nothing more than erroneous thought objectified. One's thought is turned from self-sufficienty to the all-sufficiency of God, good. Entertaining the qualities of God—purity, gentleness, and so forth—opens the way to harmony, serenity, and peace.
