When I was eighteen, I had my first job. It was physically heavy work…

[Original in Dutch]

When I was eighteen, I had my first job. It was physically heavy work, lifting children, whose backs were in casts, from one bed into another. I began to have backaches which grew worse, but I didn't pay much attention to this. I was not acquainted with Christian Science yet, but neither was I used to going to a doctor.

After I became a student of Science, I would wake in the middle of the night because of the pain in my back. I tried to concentrate my thoughts on God, realizing that God made everything that was made and God is good. The pain persisted. At my wits' end I went to a Christian Science practitioner. She said, to wake me up, "Drop the belief that it is your back that carries every burden." That struck me. That was it. Every time when the pain came, I threw it off, knowing that God is Love, who, as Father-Mother, takes care of everything. Within a week I was completely healed. This experience has made me very joyful and happy.
