A Christian Science nurse-trainee writes

Nursing-A Call for Demonstration

Christian Science nursing presents a marvelous opportunity to live the truth of Mrs. Eddy's statement: "Every day makes its demands upon us for higher proofs rather than professions of Christian power. These proofs consist solely in the destruction of sin, sickness, and death by the power of Spirit, as Jesus destroyed them. This is an element of progress, and progress is the law of God, whose law demands of us only what we can certainly fulfil." Science and Health, p. 233;

A Christian Science nurse must strive daily to gain a clearer conception of God's indestructible spiritual creation, and an ability to effectively apply this understanding. "Progress is born of experience," ibid., p. 296; Mrs. Eddy says. What better way is there to progress than to be daily faced with all kinds of challenges presented by mortal mind, or the belief of life in matter? One must prove his dominion right in the midst of evil's clamor. It's always uplifting and satisfying to feel oneself growing spiritually day by day.

A Christian Science nurse constantly faces the severity of the belief that life and substance are material. But the pictures of disease and sickness are always false pictures—without foundation in God, divine Truth. This is why nursing is such a wonderful challenge, such a high calling—it requires the practical demonstration of one's spiritual understanding. A Christian Science nurse must have a deep love for Science, a willingness to give selflessly in serving God, and a great deal of compassion for his or her fellowman.
