I am sure some people think they have to be a good student of Christian Science in order to receive help in Science, but I found this not to be true. Hearing in the news of people out of work causes me to tell of my experience.

At the time of the economic depression in 1929 I knew nothing of Christian Science. I had been working in building construction. When we finished the last building, the company said there would be no more work for some time, as all building was shut down. I started out looking for any kind of work and applied in every place I thought I might find something, but everyone told me the same story. They were laying off instead of hiring. After walking the streets day after day and finding nothing, I was pretty depressed.

Then my wife, who had always been a student of Christian Science, asked me, "Why don't you ask a Christian Science practitioner for help in finding work?" I thought, "What have I got to lose?" I thought maybe a practitioner might know someone who would hire me, so I went and talked to one.
