Overcoming Destructive Weather
One summer's afternoon I noticed that the sky was black with angry clouds. In fact, it looked so bad that I went into my room. Outside, the worst storm I had ever seen struck the earth. Thunder and lightning, wind, sheets of rain, even hail roared outside. The electric power was knocked out. A tornado touched down a mile away.
Previously I had always waited for a storm with fascinated expectancy. But this time I was appalled at the force. I had spent most of the day studying the Bible, and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy—turning to God for a clearer concept of His universe. I couldn't accept the frightening conditions outside as part of His creation. God is not destructive.
On page 293 of Science and Health I found this arresting statement: "Electricity is the sharp surplus of materiality which counterfeits the true essence of spirituality or truth,—the great difference being that electricity is not intelligent, while spiritual truth is Mind."
