What's the Correct View of Competition?
The second quarter of the basketball game was under way by the time I arrived, and the visiting team had a seven-point lead. The crowd was enthusiastic, and the ball was changing hands rapidly; so I quickly found a seat and began to root for the home team.
My rooting consisted largely of applauding and wincing at the appropriate times—appropriate, that is, from the home team's point of view. Then I decided that some inward rooting was in order and began to look for the expression of qualities of God— such as order, vitality, and perfection—in the players.
But I stopped short.
