Salvation

From what do we need to be saved? The answer people mainly give to this question is in accordance with their present problem. One might say he needed to be saved from sickness, another from a sense of lack, and so on. Most people, though they are concerned about the future and what will happen to them after death, are especially eager to be saved from the thing, or things, bothering them now.

The power of the universe—divine Love—does indeed save the one who turns to Love understandingly. And, after being saved from his greatest worries, one should continue to turn to God, Love. Only so will he be lifted steadily above false, material beliefs and the false sense of self, which would keep him from heaven, harmony.

Mrs. Eddy writes, "The apostle says that the mission of Christ is to 'destroy the works of the devil.'" Science and Health, p. 474; The devil, error, would have us believe not only that matter can suffer but also that it can give us pleasure. The Christ, the spiritual idea, lifts us above the belief in matter as intelligent for evil or good.
