"Me? Emulate Jesus?"

"Are you a Christian?"
"Yes, of course!"
"Oh, then, you emulate Jesus."
"Me? Who do you think I am?"

If you had been the second party of this conversation, would you, too, have expressed shock and surprise? Yet, to emulate him is the challenge Jesus himself gives to all his followers! And it's a challenge Christian Science reiterates to all who think of themselves as Christians.

After Mrs. Eddy discovered Christian Science she saw clearly that to emulate Jesus by really following his teachings as well as by healing as he did is a requisite for being a Christian. In Science and Health she confronts us with this question: "When will Jesus' professed followers learn to emulate him in all his ways and to imitate his mighty works?"  Science and Health, p. 37; Also, in an address to Christian Scientists meeting in Concord, New Hampshire, she wrote quite plainly about this, saying: "Christianity is the summons of divine Love for man to be Christlike—to emulate the words and the works of our great Master."  The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 148;
