Healing Through Affirmation and Denial

The basic teaching of Christian Science is that God is Spirit and that in consequence His creation, including man, is spiritual and therefore perfect. The practice of Christian Science consists in proving this fact by maintaining in consciousness the spiritual truth relevant to every situation we may encounter, in spite of the evidence of the material senses.

Through the textbook, Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy has given the world the possibility of understanding the spiritual import of the Bible, to which Christian Science is unshakably anchored. All who sincerely desire to know how the Bible (particularly the New Testament accounts of the life and works of Christ Jesus) can be a practical help to them will find logical and demonstrable answers by studying the textbook.

If we accept the fact that God, Spirit, is All and fills all space— even the space that appears to be finite and filled with material objects and forms of life—and that man, His image and likeness, is spiritual and perfect, we must accept the parallel fact that sin, disease, and death, which are the direct opposite of spirituality and perfection, are unreal. Their apparent existence in human experience is nothing more than illusion, which results from confused mortal thinking. To heal any inharmonious condition, therefore, human consciousness has to be spiritualized.
