In the summer of 1971, while traveling in Mexico, I woke with severe chest pains and seemed to slip in and out of consciousness. My family quietly prayed for me in Christian Science. I affirmed to myself that God loves me and I am the loved of Love. And so I held to that until I felt the love of God encompassing me. About fifteen minutes had elapsed. A few minutes later I got up and dressed and went on a four-hour tour we had scheduled. No part of our plans had to be changed.
I was very grateful to God for the quick results I had witnessed that morning, but mild attacks continued. I knew fear had to be handled, so I prayed, acknowledging that God is my Life and that I exist within, never outside, His care and love, and so there could be nothing for me to fear.
