When I first turned to Christian Science for treatment, I was in great distress. The physical condition for which I sought help was an ear condition. Because of dulled hearing and other unpleasant symptoms, I was in constant discomfort.

Doctors had described the problem as a fungus condition of the inner ears. The doctor who last examined me explained that my eardrums were more than two-thirds destroyed, and that deafness was inevitable.

It was at this point that I turned to Science for help. A Christian Science practitioner advised me to obtain the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and study it. Before this I had attended a few Christian Science lectures with my parents. I hadn't understood much of what I heard; but after my first visit to the practitioner, I was determined to pursue a thorough study of the textbook and to diligently carry out, to the best of my ability, whatever it would require of me. Since childhood I had been a devoted student of the Bible and I found in this wonderful textbook many answers I had long sought.
