The Basis for Healing

A job done well usually involves proper planning, a definite method of operation. An old rule says to plan your work, then work your plan. To heal through spiritual means in Christian Science, a method of right practice is requisite.

As we probe the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, we find accurate methods of practice with which to overcome sin, disease, and discord and establish our lives in health and harmony. These methods are not formulas, nor are they carried out by rote. There are no formulas in the practice of Christian Science. The spontaneity and inspiration so vital to spiritual healing thrive in the culture of clear thinking, high purpose, and systematic study.

In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures Mrs. Eddy shows the means by which Jesus' students increased their spiritual knowledge and inspiration, overcame their doubts, and strengthened their ability to carry out their Master's instructions to teach and heal. Of the impact his ascension had on his students she says: "They no longer measured man by material sense. After gaining the true idea of their glorified Master, they became better healers, leaning no longer on matter, but on the divine Principle of their work." Science and Health, p. 47;
