The Need to Cherish Christian Healing

Through the centuries Christians have cherished the concept of the Christ child born in a manger. But the Christ-idea, the healing and saving Truth Jesus perfectly exemplified, did not begin with Jesus' birth in Bethlehem. It has been glimpsed by spiritually-minded men and women in every age.

Mrs. Eddy writes: "In different ages the divine idea assumes different forms, according to humanity's needs. In this age it assumes, more intelligently than ever before, the form of Christian healing. This is the babe we are to cherish. This is the babe that twines its loving arms about the neck of omnipotence, and calls forth infinite care from His loving heart." Miscellaneous Writings, p. 370; How do we cherish the idea of Christian healing? We cherish it by nurturing in our hearts the desire to heal, by developing the ability to heal, and by protecting our healing work from opposing influences.

The desire to heal others is born of gratitude to God and love for mankind. It is conceived in moments of unselfed love, when the heart overflows with a longing to help others feel the touch of the healing Truth. It springs from a deep yearning to obey Christ Jesus' timeless command: "Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give." Matt. 10:8;
