The Road to Spiritual Healing
Many individuals are following the fingerposts Christian Science sets up along the road to spiritual healing, and are thus being restored to normal life and usefulness. All may share in the spiritual progress this Science promotes, if they will honestly follow its teachings.
The direction is clearly established. In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy writes, "Whoever would demonstrate the healing of Christian Science must abide strictly by its rules, heed every statement, and advance from the rudiments laid down." She goes on to explain, "There is nothing difficult nor toilsome in this task, when the way is pointed out; but self-denial, sincerity, Christianity, and persistence alone win the prize, as they usually do in every department of life." Science and Health, p. 462;
Healing in Christian Science is a spiritual experience. Sincere and persistent effort to spiritualize one's every thought and act, and willingness to have changes in character take place, quickens healing. One learns how to challenge and dispose of the thoughts and acts that depart from Principle—the ungodlike and subtle suggestions that confront us from time to time, suggestions arguing fear, doubt, debasement, and disease. And although there may always be some challenging going on, at the same time improved moral and physical conditions may be expected to accompany improved thinking.
