Profitable Thinking

At least once a year most companies publish for their stockholders financial reports listing assets and liabilities and showing profit or loss. Of even more concern to the individual than dividends should be profitable thinking. What is it?

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, indicates one essential factor in it: "I will love, if another hates. I will gain a balance on the side of good, my true being." Miscellaneous Writings, p. 104; Loving thinking, which expresses real, spiritual identity in God's likeness, is profitable thinking.

Hate, envy, jealousy, resentment, fear, and the like are liabilities to happiness, health, and success. "Treasures of wickedness," observes the book of Proverbs, "profit nothing." Prov. 10:2; Failure to express love to others can make one spiritually bankrupt in short order. Brotherly love reflects God, Love, who is All-in-all. Therefore this love is real, and its seeming absence or opposite is unreal and worthless.
