Undiminishing Strength and Vitality

Each time I sank the pick into the hard ground I thanked God for His goodness and strength. I had a foundation footing to dig in four days. To some this wouldn't have been difficult, but in my circumstances it at first looked completely beyond my capability.

A few months previous I had retired from a managerial career, and we had just moved from sea level to our new home in the mountains at an altitude of forty-two hundred feet. An addition to the house was urgently needed before winter, making the timing quite critical. Since no help was available, I had no choice but to dig the footing myself. To top it all off, we were in the middle of a record hot spell.

Because our everyday experience is the result of our thinking, a change of belief through spiritual understanding must bring about a corresponding change of experience for the better. When faced with the problem of digging the footing, I realized I would never complete it in time if I submitted to the generally accepted but false beliefs regarding age, physical condition, altitude, heat, and time. Christian Science showed me that the problem was not my age, the altitude, and so on but the erroneous beliefs concerning these things. Thus the limiting factors were not physical, not actual law, but mental and therefore subject to a change of thought.
