"Each succeeding year..."

"He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life." John 5:24;

Those of us who have heard the Word and believe in God find this saying of Jesus' has a special meaning when we are confronted with the restrictive beliefs of age. Because belief in the passing of time is so mesmeric, those who accept the practical nature of Christ Jesus' teaching need constantly to claim their immortality as the sons of God.

Christian Science shows us how to do this through prayer and practice. Man made in the image and likeness of God is wholly spiritual, so it is impossible for him to come under the condemnation of living a declining material life. As we stay with this truth, our freedom from penalties of age will increase. Every time a restricting thought is entertained—and isn't "entertained" the right word, for there is a wry amusement in watching oneself decide not to run for the bus, melancholy pleasure in tracking down the silver threads among the gold—we should, instead, vigorously affirm our splendid isolation from the false belief of getting older.
