SPIRITUALIZING THOUGHT

through humility

In humility is strength. The selflessness, patience, meekness, love, and compassion associated with humility in the human mind are qualities that spiritualize our thinking so that we may demonstrate the healing power of the Christ, Truth, as revealed to us by Jesus and explained in Christian Science.

In Miscellaneous Writings in an article entitled "The Way," Mrs. Eddy says of humility: "This virtue triumphs over the flesh; it is the genius of Christian Science." Mis., p. 356; Later in the same article she says, "Self-knowledge, humility, and love are divine strength." ibid., p. 358; It is clear that humility, backed by love, is indispensable to each one of us in attaining the heaven of spiritual consciousness—and it is natural that we should express it.

Christian Science reveals that God, Love, divine Mind, is the only creator. He forms us all in His own likeness, and we reflect His qualities. Pride, egotism, self-importance, and the like have, therefore, no place in our experience. Sometimes it may seem that these negative qualities are part of our mental makeup. To false material sense they may appear to be very real, tempting us with the belief that they are part of our thinking, our real being. But through the understanding of Truth brought to us by Science we can see this claim as an aggressive mental suggestion having no power, no presence, and no reality.
