Those Phys. Ed. Classes!
"If I can only make it through one more quarter, then I'll never have to take phys. ed. again!" For four years David had struggled through those miserable physical education classes. Three days a week he had had to run around the track, lift weights, do gymnastics or play baseball, when he would have much preferred to curl up in a comfortable chair and read a book.
He had absolutely no use for sports. Running around chasing a ball was childish, and what possible value was there in learning how to do a somersault? Besides, all the other boys were better at sports than he was, and every quarter when they had the physical fitness test he always scored among the lowest in the class. He was just no good at sports, and that was that.
Although David had been brought up as a Christian Scientist and had had several healings, he had never tried using his understanding of God's law to help with his problems in phys. ed. It was so much easier to be miserable for three periods a week or to skip class rather than to make a determined effort to correct the situation.
