The Answer's Always There

I know all the stock advice Christian Scientists give each other to help them through important exams—"Exams are just another way to prove the omnipotence of divine Mind. After all, the teacher who asks the questions and the students who answer them all have the same Mind, or source of intelligence, you know."

But somehow, these reminders never helped me much. I knew that the teacher and I reflected the same Mind, but when I forgot an answer, the teacher never walked over to me and whispered the answer in my ear.

Last May I had to take the big test of the year: a qualifying exam for college credit in a course I wasn't particularly interested in. I'd learned facts for quarterly tests and promptly dismissed them from thought. I slid by with C's. Naturally, the prospect of a qualifying exam frightened me. I couldn't possibly learn all the trivia I had neglected all year in time for the test. Besides, the national, standardized test would inevitably include material that hadn't been covered in class.
